When your garbage disposal is not operating correctly, it’s sometimes unnecessary to have a plumber scheduled to come out and replace or service. Here are some tips that may save you time and money.

While these tips are useful on a majority of all garbage disposals- they are specific to our favorite, the InSinkErator Badger 5. We’ve installed hundreds if not, thousands all over Thurston County. The design is simple and the quality is superior. If you live in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater or DuPont and would like to discuss a repair or replacement, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment.

Every so often, there is a chance your garbage disposal isn’t able to run properly. You may need to reset the garbage disposal using the RED overload protector button on the bottom. This may be due to clogging from food or a foreign object like a spoon. It can also happen from operating for a long period of time- possibly overheating. If it overheats or there is something wrong with the disposal it will shut down automatically and need to be reset.

If the overload protector has tripped, you will see that the red button has popped out about a quarter of an inch (5mm). Under normal conditions this button should appear flush or slightly embedded in the bottom of the disposal housing.
