Often times there are things that can be easily resolved before one of our technicians comes out. Some of the most common plumbing issues are listed below.
Seasonal Tips
Winter Preparation:
- Remove all garden hoses immediately after use.
- Open cupboard doors under sinks that are located on outer-structure walls on extra cold nights
- Keep your faucets running at a steady trickle on extra cold nights
- Do not keep your water trickling if your drain lines are exposed to outdoor freezing temperatures, such as under mobile homes.
- Keep your garage doors closed if you have any water lines or a water heater inside your garage.
Garbage Disposals & Drains
- To freshen up your garbage disposal, run lemon or orange peels through periodically.
- Never put hard to grind or stringy waste into the disposer. This includes carrots, celery, pumpkin pulp, banana peels, or poultry skins.
- Run cold water down drain for about 15 seconds before and after using the garbage disposal.
- Turn on the disposal before adding food waste
- Avoid pouring fats and cooking oils down the drain. Liquid fats will solidify in the pipes and create clogs. Be sure to wipe any grease from your pots and pans before rinsing in the sink.
In the Bathroom
- Never flush cotton balls or swabs, hair, diapers, sanitary pruducts or similar items down the toilet. These items will not easily dissolve and are responsible for most clogs.
- If possible, try to spread out showers throughout the day. Wait at least 10 minutes between showers to help maintain warm temperatures.
- If your shower water pressure is weak, pour 1 cup of vinegar into a plastic bag, place it over the showerhead and soak overnight. In the morning remove the bag and use a toothbrush to scrub off the mineral deposits.
Pull-out Spray Kitchen Faucets
Check periodically to make sure hose is attached firmly to hand wand. Over time this hose can come loose with normal usage and cause leaking. Simply twist until it is tightened.Water Heaters
In Case Your Water Heater Leaks:
- Turn off cold water inlet valve.
- Turn off Electric and/or Gas to water heater.
- Open one HOT water faucet.
- Attach hose to the drain valve and drain the water heater.
- Call Springer Plumbing to fix the leak
