The cold snap is here in the Northwest! It is amazing how many broken outdoor faucets we see every year because of the cold weather. Just a couple simple precautions can save you from having your faucet damaged.
One of the most important things you can do to keep an outdoor faucet from freezing during the wintry season is to remove the hose. If a hose is attached to the faucet it can prevent residual water from draining. The trapped water can freeze and in turn expand, which ruptures the pipe.
The second most crucial piece of advice we can give is to install an outdoor faucet cover over the hose bib. The not only protects the fixture from the cold weather, wind, snow, and rain it also insures that you remove the hose.
We have plenty of hose bib covers in stock and the home centers sell them as well. They are inexpensive and take 30 seconds to install, so no excuses! Stay warm out there this winter.
