- It’s best to start cleaning from the inside out! Your tank underneath the sink can accumulate slime and leftover bits of food in it that need a little help finding their way out. Put the plug in your sink, fill it about halfway with water and add a cleaning agent (dish soap, vinegar etc.) Remove the plug and flip the switch, letting the disposal run for 30 seconds to a minute with the water running.
2. Even after that soak some gunk can still be leftover. Add a couple handfuls of ice and get some salt handy. Turn on the disposal and while it’s running add about a half cup of salt. These two work together to dislodge anything left in the tank while cleaning the blades. Again, let the unit run for 30 seconds to a minute.
3. Now for the fresh scent! Chop up a lemon into pieces your disposal can handle and run that through.
4. Enjoy the aroma and have a happy Spring! *Never put liquid drain cleaners down your drain. If a smell still persists we recommend using Bio-Clean.
